Flash back to February this year, and foolish little me was heading out on the long drive from Kandy to Ella. Yes, I did miss out on booking the epic blue train because I left it too late, and no, I'm not ready to talk about it.

To make the car journey a little more spicy, I had the grand idea of making a pit stop at Ambuluwawa Tower. I'd seen photos of the structure on travel blogs and the views from the top looked insane—something I could definitely handle since I'm not fazed by heights.

At the beginning, everything was peachy. The sun was shining, the path upwards was wide and everyone was happy. Let me tell you, that didn't last long!

By only halfway up, the smiles started to fade. The path narrowed to just over a foot, and the two-way system struck fear into all. But there was no going back now.

Some resorted to body hugging the tower and shimmying up, others dropped to their hands and knees and crawled like a toddler. I can't even remember my technique, only that my knees felt like jelly and my palms had never been so sweaty.

Was the view at the top nice? Sure, but I can't say I appreciated it that much in my dazed, vertigo-induced state.

So here's my honest advice, this is still a beautiful stop to make if you're staying near Kandy. But maybe think twice before climbing the tower...unless you wanna be seriously humbled :-)
