If you wanna hit Patagonia, you'll need to do a bit more travel after touching down in Santiago. Check out this guide for some info, but the consensus is that flying within the region is easiest (buy those flights the second you're ready to commit though)!

Possibly the most famous park in the area, Torres del Paine is many Patagonian visitors' first stop once you arrive in the region. The stars here are those craggy gray peaks, blanketed in snow and framed by blue glacial rivers.

Another big name you might recognize is Tierra del Fuego, an archipelago shared by Chile and Argentina that's known for its fjords and tons of wildlife. Look for guanacos, condors, and maybe even a few penguins! 

For the last stop of this (non-exhaustive) list, let's check out Magdalena Island. In the fall (their spring), it becomes a full-on penguin metropolis! Charmingly, you might see it on Google Maps as "Monumento Natural Los Pingüinos," a name it totally earns. Among the estimated 120,000 penguins (roughly 4x the population of Okotoks), you can also spot cormorants and albatrosses. And possibly the best part? It's reachable by boat tour!

Maybe mother nature is a bit harsh down here, but if you're willing to buy good boots and bundle up, Patagonia offers some pretty unreal landscapes, and wildlife you truly won't see anywhere else :-)
