Guten morgen early bird, here's your Wurm :-) 

Gone are the days of last-minute mega-deals, it really does pay to book ahead, especially if you're hoping to hit some of Europe's most famous Christmas markets.

It's hardly a secret that Germany steals the spotlight, drawing throngs of merry-makers from far and wide, and Hamburg is no exception.

Heaps of markets pop up across the city, and you'll find everything from classic cookie-cutter chalets to something more, um, salacious! — can we call them XXXmas markets? 

Day trips a plenty too. Fancy a jaunt to a historical Hanseatic haven? Bremen and Lübeck both fit the bill, plus they're mad for marzipan! Rather hit the slopes? Head for the Harz. 

Of course you could always zip over to Scandinavia too. Christmas markets will be in full-swing here too, just maybe with a little less latex…
