“What is an error fare?” you might ask. It’s our favourite kind of flight tip, that’s what!
Basically, we consider something an “error fare” when the flight price is verging on too-good-to-be-true — usually because someone at the airline genuinely made a mistake when they uploaded the prices. Oops!
What types of error fares occur?
- OTA Glitch fare — This happens when an Online Travel Agency (OTA) offers a fare so low that even the airlines do a double-take. Basically, they post a price that’s way off from what the airline intended, leaving you with a deal so good it feels like a crime (but isn’t, we promise).
- Currency Conversion error — When booking in one currency magically slashes the price compared to others. It’s like the airlines forgot to check the exchange rate, and you get to pocket the difference.
- Human Pricing error — The classic. Some poor soul in the airline office fumbles a number, and suddenly that business class seat to Paris is the price of a bus ticket. Let's hope their contract allows a certain number of “whoops” moments before they're shown the door.
- Fare class error — When you score a first-class seat for the price of an economy ticket because someone botched the fare brackets. Don't ask questions, enjoy the legroom while the rest of us are cramped up in coach!
Over the last 8 years, we’ve seen some absolutely crazy, jaw-dropping, unbelievably BUY-ME-NOW error fares. If you blinked when these emails landed, you might have missed them because error fares rarely hang around for long.
Here’s a fairly exhaustive list of all the error fares we’ve hunted down for JFC members over the last 8 years. From short-haul jaunts (2p to Vienna, anyone?!) to boujie biz class, we’ve seen it all…
